Because I very rarely use an aftermarket head unit and say “Wow, this doesn’t feel like it was designed in 2003!”

I like mine, but that’s because it has Android Auto and I rarely have to see its own ugly interface, and it has very little non-screen space to spoil with shitty design.

Just in my general experience, the OEM units are much better in terms of design and usability (with some exceptions), while aftermarket units provide better sound quality, usually because the OEM unit doesn’t have anywhere near enough power, which is a simple enough fix.

This doesn’t offend me at all, at least you can ditch the head unit when better technology comes out. Try adding USB or bluetooth to a car from the mid-00's and keep a clean look. And it looks better than the stick on screens new cars have on top of their dashboards.
